Indie vinyl
Indie started as a description of how records were released, not how they sounded: independent labels like Rough Trade, Factory and Creation putting out music the major labels wouldn't. It has since become a broad church, from jangling guitar pop to noisy, lo-fi rock, held together by a do-it-yourself spirit.
Because indie covers so much, this is the widest net on the site. Here's every indie record we've covered, with what's on pre-order, what's in stock and where to buy it. If you know what you're after, indie rock and indie pop narrow it down.

Indie is the umbrella: music from independent labels and the scenes around them. Indie rock is the guitar-band end of it; indie pop is the gentler, more melodic side.
Good places to start are The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths, Doolittle by Pixies, Slanted and Enchanted by Pavement and If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle and Sebastian. Check each record's page for the pressings available now.
Our indie records link most often to Sister Ray (UK), Resident Music (UK) and Piccadilly Records (UK). Every buy link goes to the artist, the label or a record shop selling the record new, at retail price. See where to buy indie vinyl →
Coming up: The South Facade by Ugly (23 October), 22, A Million (10th Anniversary Edition) by Bon Iver (20 November) and Everybody Scream (Chamber Version) by Florence + The Machine (27 November). See indie pre-orders →
