About 4AD

4AD started life in London in 1979 as Axis Records, an offshoot of Beggars Banquet, and took its current name the following year. Under Ivo Watts-Russell it became one of the defining British independents, home to Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Dead Can Dance and This Mortal Coil, with sleeves by Vaughan Oliver that made its records instantly recognisable.

It is now part of Beggars Group, and its catalogue is still regularly reissued on vinyl.

We list 66 4AD vinyl releases, from artists including Cocteau Twins, Lush and Pale Saints. Most of them are dream pop, shoegaze and post-punk records. The release dates run from 2008 to 2026. Four are reissues or anniversary editions of older albums. Three come on coloured vinyl. 4AD records have featured in 6 issues of the Surface Noise Weekly.
