Interpol’s new album This Mirror Weighs A Ton is due 28th August on Partisan Records, and the signed indies exclusive copies are the ones to move on quickly. The album brings synths, strings, acoustic guitars and layered percussion into the band’s existing framework — expansive in sound but recognisably Interpol in temperament. Refinement over reinvention, which is probably the right call at this point in their catalogue.
The brooding atmospheric quality that defined Turn on the Bright Lights is still central to what they do here. Whether you think that’s a strength or a limitation probably tells you whether this record is for you, but for fans who’ve been with them since the early records, this sounds like a band who know what they are and are doing it well.
It’s available as a standard 2xLP, an indies exclusive 2xLP, and a signed indies exclusive 2xLP. The signed copies at Partisan will go fast, so if that’s the one you want, don’t sit on it.
