Some records carry a weight before you’ve even pressed play. James Ellis Ford has spent years shaping other people’s records, producing for Arctic Monkeys, Blur, and Depeche Mode among others, and Lost In Another World is his first time stepping forward as the artist rather than the person behind the desk.
The story behind it is genuinely striking. The album was written in just two weeks while Ford was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia, and that intensity reportedly runs right through the record. It’s not a producer’s side project. It sounds like something that needed to exist.
Domino are releasing it August 14th, and the edition to go for is the Petrol Blue vinyl through the Domino Mart, which comes with a signed art print and lyric book. Given the personal weight of this one, that feels like the right way to own it.
