Indie rock is the guitar-band end of indie: Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, Sebadoh and Yo La Tengo in the late 80s and 90s, on labels like SST, Matador, Sub Pop and Merge, and everything that grew out of them. Scrappy or polished, it's guitar music made outside the major-label system.
