Carissa’s Wierd are back with Somewhere Further Than Far Away, their first album since Songs About Leaving in 2002. It’s out on Nettwerk on 8 January 2027 on coloured vinyl LP, and pre-orders are open now.

Twenty-five years on

Jenn Champion and Mat Brookes started the band in Tucson in the mid-’90s, then moved to Seattle after touring with Modest Mouse. They made three albums of slow, close-harmony songs that sounded far too fragile for the basements and warehouses they were played in, then split in 2003. Brookes and drummer Ben Bridwell went on to Band Of Horses, and Champion to S and a run of solo records.

The new album was made at a distance. Brookes and Champion recorded their parts in their bedrooms and sent them back and forth before finishing it in a Seattle studio. Opener No One Lives Here Anymore is their first new song in fifteen years, and it sounds like no time has passed.
