Deafheaven's surprise EP At Work in the Fields of the Bomb lands on Wild Rye vinyl 12" via Roadrunner, 27 November 2026. Produced by Arthur Rizk. Preorder from Rough Trade.
Deafheaven have announced a surprise EP and it goes somewhere most people were not expecting. Three tracks produced by Arthur Rizk — Hunter, Three Princes, Sorry Laid the Hearth — built around blast-beats, tremolo-picked guitars and ominous choral synths. The title references photographer Robert Del Tredici’s book documenting nuclear weapons production, which gives you some sense of the mood they were going for.
This is arguably the most black metal-leaning material the band has put out since Sunbather, and it arrives on Wild Rye vinyl as a 12″ on Roadrunner, due 27 November 2026. Rough Trade has the exclusive pressing for preorder now.
Whatever you made of the direction they have taken over the past few records, this sounds like a deliberate reset. Worth getting the preorder in now before it becomes a reseller problem.
