Can: Live In Arles 1975 — first time on vinyl, out September

Can’s 1975 performance at the Roman Théâtre Antique in Arles is widely considered one of the best they ever gave. The core four of Irmin Schmidt, Michael Karoli, Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay played as part of a festival that also featured Nico and Kevin Ayers — already a remarkable context for the show. The band themselves have reportedly described it as among their finest performances, which from Can is not a claim made lightly.

Now it’s coming to vinyl for the first time, on Mute, due 25th September 2026. This is not an archival footnote or a release aimed purely at completists. A live Can document of this stature, from this lineup, at this stage of their career, is a record that stands on its own regardless of where you are with the catalogue.
