About Real Numbers
Working out of Minneapolis, Real Numbers have built a sound firmly rooted in the jangle-and-ache tradition of UK indiepop's late-80s and early-90s golden era — bands like Field Mice and St Christopher are the clearest reference points, and Real Numbers wear that influence openly rather than trying to disguise it. Was It Always This Way is described as a refinement of the band's established sound: ten songs balancing hope against despair, built on melody and momentum rather than reinvention. For listeners already into contemporaries like Ducks Ltd, Chime School or The Umbrellas, Real Numbers sit comfortably in that same current wave of bands keeping this specific, bittersweet strand of indiepop alive.
