The Cat's Miaow release their long-awaited debut album When You Smiled And Turned Away on Slumberland and Lost & Lonesome. Order the limited LP from Norman Records.
The Cat’s Miaow have occupied a particular kind of mythological space in indiepop for thirty years. Their 1990s tapes and 7″s were passed between people who cared about them deeply, and the two World of Echo compilations gave a wider audience a way in. Now, remarkably, there is a debut studio album.
When You Smiled And Turned Away is out on Slumberland and Lost and Lonesome, and by all accounts it carries the same qualities that made those early recordings so beloved: gentle, unfussy, quietly mastered. Not a band trying to update themselves or chase something new, just a band making the record they were always going to make eventually.
A limited print run is available with direct orders. Norman Records are carrying it for UK and EU buyers. This is one of those releases that means a great deal to a specific group of people, and it deserves to find them properly.
