Before Hinterland became the finished album, Julie Campbell was recording alone in a Manchester tower block between 2011 and 2013, working her way up from a Tascam 4-track through GarageBand to Pro Tools. Hinterland Home Recordings is those demos, out on Warp on 29 January 2027.
If you already know the album well, this is a chance to hear how complete the ideas already were before anyone else came near them. These are not rough sketches in the way bedroom recordings often get described — they are the architecture of the whole thing, exposed.
