Athens band Youth Valley release As Passive Aggressive As It Gets as a double LP on Fine! Records. Post-punk, shoegaze and dreampop from outside the usual axis, out now.
Youth Valley are from Athens, Greece, and their new record As Passive Aggressive As It Gets is out now as a double LP on Fine! Records. It is online only, with limited bundles available through their Bandcamp page.
The band work in the space where post-punk, shoegaze and dreampop overlap, which is a well-populated area, but there is something to be said for hearing how those sounds translate outside the usual UK and US geography. Athens has its own relationship with noise and melody, and this record carries some of that.
Two records worth of material for a band at this stage suggests ambition, and the format alone makes this worth a closer look. If your listening tends to wander beyond the obvious shoegaze canon and you want to hear what is happening in other parts of Europe, this is a reasonable place to spend some time.
