David Sylvian's first album in fifteen years arrives February 2027. The Distance Between the Killer and the Killing is an abstract 46-minute instrumental on NANOQ.
David Sylvian‘s first album in fifteen years is coming. The Distance Between the Killer and the Killing is out February 26 on NANOQ, and the preorder is live now at Sister Ray, where the indies exclusive coloured LP is the edition to go for.
This is the official follow-up to Manafon, the 2009 record built around improvised sessions with a group of musicians from experimental and jazz backgrounds. The new album follows a similar process: the recordings were made between 2012 and 2025, and contributors include Ryuichi Sakamoto and Otomo Yoshihide. What arrives on this LP has been reconfigured from those sessions into a single 46-minute instrumental piece.

Abstract and difficult to categorise in the best possible way. For anyone who has been following Sylvian’s post-Japan solo work, a fifteen-year gap makes this feel genuinely significant. It is unlikely to be the most accessible release in any given week, but it will almost certainly be one of the most interesting.
