About this record
Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan — Industrial Growth
With Industrial Growth, Gordon Chapman-Fox delivers the seventh full-length release under his Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan moniker—and marks a brutal, decisive pivot from the project’s ambient origins toward raw sonic dissonance and distortion.
“My music has been getting heavier and heavier over the years,” reflects Chapman-Fox. “As my music often reflects my feelings on the outside world, this is very much a visceral response to our current times.”
Snarling, menacing, and unapologetically dark, the record channels a deep-seated unrest. “There’s always been a darkness to my work, but this felt like the time to unleash it all,” Gordon explains. “The Growth of the title isn’t about economics, this is something far more organic, eating away at our society.”
Origins & Evolution
Much of the material originated as a suite commissioned for the 2024 Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. Since that debut, the tracks were refined and reshaped during a UK tour. A few compositions from the original live set were discarded along the way, replaced by fresh material that tighter aligns with the album’s aggressive atmosphere.
Track-by-Track Journey
-
Side A: The album explodes open with the immediate, crushing impact of “This Machine,” instantly signaling a harsher, angrier Warrington-Runcorn. Fusing industrial rhythms with biting white noise, it gives way to the suffocating weight of “The Wire” and “Warrington Bank Quay.” Side A draws to a close with “Heavy Industry,” offering a fleeting moment of respite amidst the gloom.
-
Side B: The atmosphere tightens again with the claustrophobic, mechanical textures of “Parkside” and “Astmoor.” “Post Industrial Policy” weaves hints of early kosmische synth melodies into a swirling expanse, only for that brief levity to be shattered by the noise-ravaged finale, “Industrial Unrest.”
Extras & Visuals
-
Bonus Remix: The digital download on Bandcamp features an exclusive rework of “This Machine” by TVAM. “I’ve worked with Joe from TVAM in the past, we grew up in the same area, and he’s an absolute joy,” notes Gordon.
-
Artwork: Visuals across the packaging were created by Michael Cooke, continuing his collaboration following Districts, Roads, Open Space, and Your Community Hub. Drawing directly from his upbringing in Runcorn, Cooke’s illustrations lend a deeply authentic visual identity to the release.

FAQs about this record
Direct from Castles In Space's official store. Buying direct means the money goes to the label and artist rather than a reseller.
There's no confirmed reissue news for this Castles In Space record right now. If that changes, it'll be in the weekly email.
Check back with Castles In Space directly rather than buying from a reseller at a markup. Labels often repress when stock runs low, and paying inflated second-hand prices only rewards resellers, not the artist.
