Rocketship's 1996 debut A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness returns on white and bone swirl vinyl for its 30th anniversary. Direct copies still available from Slumberland.
Rocketship‘s 1996 debut is one of those records that genuinely defied easy categorisation when it came out. Buzzing organs, spacey interludes, motorik repetition and an indiepop sensibility that put them adjacent to Stereolab and Unrest while sounding like neither. Thirty years on, it still sounds singular rather than dated.
Slumberland have remastered it lovingly for this 30th anniversary edition and pressed it on white and bone swirl vinyl. The LP has already sold out at retail, but Slumberland still have direct copies available through their Bandcamp page.
If this one is new to you, now is a good time to understand what the fuss has been about for three decades. And if you already know it, the remaster on a nice pressing is reason enough. Go direct to Slumberland while copies remain.
