Whirr have been quiet for a long time, which makes their appearance on this split with Luster all the more worth paying attention to. Four tracks across two bands, two coasts, and what feels like a genuine conversation between different generations of American shoegaze rather than just a label pairing.
Luster have been building a reputation fast, and the Nick Bassett connection that runs through their previous output is audible here in the best way — guitars that glide rather than chug, vocals buried where they belong, and volume used as an emotional tool rather than a blunt one.
The Funeral Party exclusive pressing is on clear and red marble vinyl, numbered to 500 copies. It ships on 18th September 2026. Given that this is Whirr’s first new material in years and Luster are a name more collectors are chasing by the week, 500 copies is not a lot.
