Stripping the electronics from Depeche Mode sounds like it should not work, but Nouvelle Vague have made a career out of exactly this kind of unlikely recontextualisation, and it tends to.
The bossa nova and French pop lens they apply here is the same approach that made their early records genuinely surprising rather than just conceptually clever. On this label and with this cast of collaborators, the execution is unlikely to disappoint. Worth getting the preorder in ahead of October.
