About Velocity Girl
Formed in the D.C. area in the late 1980s, Velocity Girl became one of the key American bands associated with shoegaze and indiepop's early-90s crossover, pairing waves of guitar noise with unmistakably melodic, pop-forward songwriting fronted by Sarah Shannon's vocals. Their run of early singles and split releases built a reputation on the strength of scene connections and word-of-mouth college radio play before wider recognition followed. The band became closely tied to the Slumberland Records world, a label whose entire identity was shaped in part by exactly this generation of American indiepop and shoegaze acts. Decades later, their earliest, hardest-to-find material remains some of the most requested in the label's catalogue — material this new compilation is specifically built to gather up properly for the first time.
