Collector notes

Pet Grief is the second studio album by Swedish dream pop outfit The Radio Dept., released in 2006 on Labrador Records. It arrived the same year international attention around the band was building, following soundtrack placements from their debut album on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette — timing that helped push Pet Grief to a wider mainstream audience than its predecessor. The original Labrador pressing has been out of print for years, and two later represses on the band's own Just So! label (black vinyl and a limited blue vinyl, both 2020) have also sold out. It remains one of the most requested reissues among fans, and secondhand copies routinely go for well above their original price.

FAQ

Can I still buy The Radio Dept.'s Pet Grief on vinyl?

Not right now. The original 2006 Labrador pressing is long out of print, and both Just So! represses (black vinyl and blue vinyl, 2020) are sold out too. The only current listings are through resellers at heavily inflated prices — we'd steer you away from those. Join the Surface Noise mailing list and we'll email you the moment a legitimate way to buy it opens up.

How many vinyl editions of Pet Grief have there been?

Three so far: the original 2006 Labrador LP, and two 2020 represses on the band's own Just So! label — one on black vinyl, one on limited blue vinyl. All three are currently out of print.

Is a new Pet Grief vinyl reissue coming?

Yes — the band has confirmed a new pressing is on the way, expected sometime after summer 2026, though an exact date and stockist haven't been announced yet. We'll post preorder details here and in the newsletter as soon as they're confirmed, so you're not left relying on reseller markups in the meantime.
