About Matador

Matador Records was founded in New York in 1989 by Chris Lombardi, with Gerard Cosloy joining the following year. It became one of the key American indie labels of the 1990s with Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Guided by Voices, Liz Phair and Cat Power, and later Interpol, Belle and Sebastian and Snail Mail.

Matador is part of Beggars Group, and its anniversary reissues are often expanded vinyl box sets.

We list 15 Matador vinyl releases, from artists including Bardo Pond, Esben and the Witch and Mogwai. Most of them are shoegaze, dream pop and post-rock records. The release dates run from 1996 to 2026. Matador records have featured in one issue of the Surface Noise Weekly.
