Andy Bell & Masal on Vinyl

Andy Bell is best known as guitarist and songwriter in Ride, one of the defining bands of the original shoegaze movement, and later as a member of Oasis's touring and recording lineup on bass. Outside those bands, Bell has increasingly pursued more exploratory, electronic-leaning collaborative work, and his partnership with Masal is a clear step further into that territory. Together they move away from guitar-based songwriting entirely, favouring layered, atmospheric pieces that draw on kosmische, astral jazz and ambient folk traditions. Common Primitives is their second full collaboration, building on a 2023 debut with a more layered, patient approach — the kind of record that rewards attention rather than familiarity with either artist's other work.
