Surface Noise · surfacenoise.net · Last updated: June 2025
Surface Noise is a free, independent weekly newsletter for vinyl enthusiasts. We take your privacy seriously and keep things simple. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it.
Who we are
Surface Noise is operated as an independent project. You can contact us at contact@surfacenoise.net.
What we collect
When you sign up for the Surface Noise newsletter we collect your email address. That is the only personal data we ask for. We do not require your name, address, or any payment information.
We may also collect basic technical data automatically when you visit the site — such as your IP address, browser type, and pages viewed — through standard server logs and analytics tools. This data is used only in aggregate and is not tied to your identity.
How we use your data
Your email address is used solely to send you the Surface Noise newsletter — a weekly digest of new vinyl releases, reissues, and where to buy them. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address. We use MailPoet to manage and send the newsletter; your email is stored within our WordPress installation and processed by MailPoet in accordance with their own privacy policy. No other third parties have access to your subscriber data.
Cookies
Our website may set basic cookies to ensure it functions correctly (for example, WordPress session cookies). We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. If you subscribe to the newsletter, a cookie may be set to remember your preference.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe from Surface Noise at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us directly. On request we will delete your data from our records entirely. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to access, correct, or object to how we process your data under UK GDPR / the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Data retention
We keep your email address for as long as you remain a subscriber. Once you unsubscribe or request deletion, your data is removed from our active lists promptly.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect subscriber data. Our site uses HTTPS encryption and access to subscriber data is limited to site administrators only.
External links
Our newsletter and website contain links to record labels, stores, and other third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will note them here and update the date above. We will not reduce your rights without clear notice.
